The roll of a musher in a sled dog team is not necessarily decided by one's athletic ability. Sure it doesn't hurt to be athletic but the true role of a musher is to be the coach, athletic trainer, and lead strategist. We as mushers need to have the ability to endure the elements and knowledge of how to survive in the vastness of an arctic wilderness, but we would not be able to travel without the amazing athletic ability of our sled dogs. Every time I step on the runners I am amazed with a sled dogs ability to drive on. Their trade of distance running can be traced back thousands of years to the days of nomadic travel in the north, and we as mushers are just beginning to understand the greatness of what sled dogs can really do. This is the best long distance running animal on the planet. All they require is cold weather, and prime conditions for them to do their amazing trade is below zero degrees Fahrenheit! When we as humans begin to get cold these amazing animals are just beginning to hit their peak! Often times when driving a team of dogs I feel small when I realize how great these animals really are. I am truly honored to be in their world every time I step on the runners! Check out the dogs of Tukaway by clicking the link below to get know each and everyone's own distinct personality!
